In celebration of Veteran's Day, 2013, our club decided to focus on sharing the history of Veteran's Day with our youth. The members of Kerry's Kids Youth Garden Club joined us at the Blue Star Memorial Marked/Garden to learn why we celebrate Veteran's Day. Several members of the Ft. Inn City Council, the Police Chief, community members, and veterans attended this event also. First, the children met two heroes, Mr. Maier, a WWII fighter-pilot and Mr. Miller, a veteran of the Vietnam War era. They also placed 4 engraved bricks into the memorial garden. Flags were placed around the Blue Star Marker sign and at the memorial tree planted on City Hall grounds by the children. Eve Bunting's book, The Wall, was read to the children. They also planted red, white and blue pansies at this site. 8 children were privileged to learn about history of the Blue Star and why our veterans are so important.
